At the very hearth of the San Raffaele ecosystem, there has always been frontier scientific research: a driver of the excellence of teaching and learning at Vita-Salute San Raffaele University, as well as of quality of care at IRCCS Ospedale San Raffaele.

This is why scientific research is a strategic asset for UniSR: it is only by being among the international players in the advancement of knowledge that we can train the best specialists in healthcare.

Alongside scientific production, the collaboration between the university and the hospital also contributes to increase its research wider impact, helping to fuel economic and cultural growth outside the walls of Academia - the so-called Third Mission.

The results emerging from the latest Research Quality Assessment (VQR) – carried out by ANVUR, the National Agency for the Evaluation of the University and Research System – confirm the success of the approach: according to the report just published by the agency and referring to the five-year period between 2015 and 2019, Vita-Salute San Raffaele University ranks second among private universities.

The 2015-2019 ANVUR Ranking

The 2015-2019 Research Quality Assessment (VQR) aims at evaluating both the results of scientific research and the Third Mission indicators of State and non-State Universities, public research institutes supervised by MIUR and other public and private entities that carry out research activity.

From this latest evaluation, UniSR is one of the best universities for the quality of research products. Among private universities - which are typically smaller than public ones – it is at the top of the ranking, immediately after Bocconi University.

UniSR also ranks at the top positions for its Third Mission activities, the ones contributing to the economic and cultural development of its local and national territory, especially by transferring knowledge and technologies: thanks to its commitment to engaging society at all levels – from the general public to patients and the biotech industry - UniSR ranks second in Italy among all private universities.
